Over the years, Dr. Hyduk has seen the patient age span vary significantly, and is now treating patients from infancy to mature adults. A significant part of his patient care is centered on mature adults. He believes the growth in adult care is attributed to more attractive cosmetic braces, increased comfort during treatment and decreased treatment times. "For example, the braces used today for the correction of misaligned teeth can be translucent or even completely invisible, placed behind the teeth. This minimizes or completely eliminates the patient's concern for a less attractive appearance. Treatment that at one time would take years can many times be completed in less than a year", says Dr. Hyduk. Most of these benefits are the result of an increased understanding in biomaterial, biomechanics and craniofacial growth and development. These advancements in techniques have immensely increased patient options.
Dr. Hyduk has helped transform and improve the quality of life for many of his patients. "Many patients seek care for dysfunctions that can consist of basics most of us take for granted, such as breathing, chewing or speaking," he says. In addition to his work with facial irregularity, Dr. Hyduk is engaged in the treatment of patient care through his hospital staff positions. As part of the medical team, he addresses sleep disorders, many of which are linked to apnea (the inability to breathe while sleeping), and chronic head and neck pain. According to Dr. Hyduk, for many patients treatment is an issue of improving the physical being, and for others it can create drastic aesthetic changes that can help emotionally and build self-esteem.
The nature of the patient services provided can be complex and sensitive, requiring an office environment that is staffed with a team of professional, skilled and understanding specialists. He demands that his patients receive the very finest care and attention. Dr. Hyduk has taken extra measures to account for patient communications by having a staff member on his team whose responsibility is to consult with the patients; investing the necessary time to answer their questions and/or concerns. This one-on-one experience helps prepare, inform and put patients at ease with regards to the anticipated treatment and the positive changes these procedures can bring.
